ACUSON X500 Concept Sketch

This is a sample of one of my concept sketches of a new ultrasound machine.  It was created during the concept development phase of the ACUSON X500.  I have designed several ultrasound products in my formative years at Siemens and designafairs USA.  Truly, ultrasound machines are challenging and complex.  They can be super-computers that roll around on wheels, or amazingly miniaturized devices that fit into your pocket.

This one has standing and sitting workstation ergonomics, handheld grip ergonomics, monitors, monitor arms, backlighting, control panels, keyboards, user interface, gel warmers, biopsy needles, cables, hooks, labels, graphics, colors.  I learned the importance of well-designed products even down to the power supply label on the back of the machine.

This sketch was created by hand sketching over a image of the rough (and ugly) 3D model of the internals from the mechanical team in Japan.  Working with a 3D underlay keeps your perspective accurate, keeps you honest in your proportions, and allows you creative freedom to visualize the possibilities of a concept.
